The tour starts across the road from the Franklin Wharf entrance to the Macq1 Hotel. Just near the Tasmanian Fishermen Memorial. Your map will show you where we begin.
As you will be on foot, best make sure you have some comfy shoes that are good for walking.
Before heading out, check on the weather and dress accordingly. Remember, Hobart weather has a habit of changing quickly and regularly. Don’t let that put you off though, just pack smart!
We recommend you pack a small bag with:
As this is an audio tour, we suggest a pair of headphones to listen to the tour content. Bluetooth headphones are great as you don’t have to worry about getting tangled up in cables! Cheap or high quality….up to you. If you are using noise cancelling headphones, please be extra careful around traffic. If not using headphones you can use your phones inbuilt speakers.
The tour will end where it began but don’t forget, you can leave and rejoin the tour route wherever and whenever you choose. That’s the Take A Local way!

That is the beauty of Take A Local tours….it is up to you how long it takes. But as a guide, if you just walked from beginning to end without making any of our suggested detours and stops, it would take around an 1.5-2 hours. If you stopped to check out all of tour stops, you could easily take half a day. But it is all in your hands. Take a few hours or a day…just do it your way!

The short answer is no. You can start the tour at any of the tour stops on the tour map. The tour will offer to direct you to the official start point, but this can be ignored. When you get to the official start point you will hear the tour introduction and when you reach the official end point you will get the tour wrap up. Just keep following the map and you can continue along the tour.
The total distance travelled in the tour is approximately 3.8km/2.36miles

The majority of the tour is flat or downhill. However to go down hill, there must be some uphill. Uphill sections are mostly short and gradual and suitable for all fitness levels. The best thing about Take A Local tours is there are no time constraints so you can do the tour at your own pace.
GPS positioning is usually quite accurate but from time to time may show your location at a different point, although it is usually still quite close by. This can be caused by interference from buildings, trees, other devices and even the weather! Usually if you just continue travelling you position will correct itself. If needed, some times restarting your device may help or closing and reopening the Take A Local app.
If you miss a Tour Stop because your GPS position was not correct, just press the relevant grey circle on the tour map or select the stop from the List view to hear the audio.
Generally, we recommend stopping to listen to the audio. This is for a few reasons:
