First is the Tasmanian Autumn Festival—a month-long celebration of the autumnal season. Picture it: historic places like Derwent Valley and Central Highlands in autumn hues, artisanal markets with handcrafted delights and the scent of wood-fired pizzas wafting in the air.

Children (and child-at-hearts) will be captivated with the vibrant foliage, fungi, and fruits that decorate the forests, gardens, and fields. Also discover the traditions, stories, and heritage that make the region unique. Insider’s tip: Take the cosiest scarf and camera—this festival is the crème de crème of gold on the ‘gram.

The Tasmanian Autumn Festival offers something for everyone whether your search is for inspiration, fun, or adventure. Guided tours, seminars, shows, and self-drive paths will also help you to deepen your understanding and respect of the area.

Spiegeltent Hobart: Get Ready to be Amazed with LIMBO The Show

When: April 4

Where: Hobart, Greater Hobart

Step right up, friends! Hobart’s beloved Spiegeltent returns with the jaw-dropping extravaganza LIMBO The Show: a cabaret and circus and brain-twisting theatre mash-up in an actual-mirrored tent with the unmistakable scent of old-school glamour. Here, gravity drops in for a coffee break. Acrobats? Check. Fire-breathing risk-takers? Check. A live band whose beat will get your toes a-tapping involuntarily? Oh, yeah.

Order a cocktail and take a front-row seat and let yourself be transported into the sultry, surrealist realm of LIMBO. Just remember: Scraping your jaw off the floor is included in the show. Hobart live shows don’t get more spectacular than LIMBO The Show. The shows sell faster than a market stall truffle in Tasmania and typically, this event is sold out in a flash, so be sure to book in advance!

The Crave Harvest Festival: Celebrating the Sensibilities

When: April 4 (4pm to 9pm), April 5 (12pm to 9pm)

Where: Richmond Park Estate

Gourmet foodies on standby—your food heaven awaits the Crave Harvest Festival. The harvest riches of Tasmania in full swing here include farm-to-table meals, wine tastings in vine-striped valleys, and cooking classes taught by chefs who would wrestle a truffle pig for the very best ingredient. Tasmanian food festivals like the Crave Harvest Festival showcase the region’s culinary delights.

Starting at midday on Saturday, the second day of the celebration will go until 9 p.m. Fantastic local musicians will entertain you throughout both days including Cameron Tapp, Ange Boxall, Pete Cornelius and the The Coal River Ukelele Mob

And there will be much to keep the youngsters occupied. Faeries, face-painting, Sands Family Circus performance, and much more!

Oatlands Highland Gathering: Scottish Tradition in the Australian Bush

When: April 5

Where: Oatlands, Heritage Highway

Want to caber-toss, pipe your lungs out, or just holler “Och aye!” and not be condemned for it? Here’s your chance! The Scottish heritage festival turns historic township Oatlands into a mini-Highlands with the kilted competitors, the dance-offs and all the haggis needed to feed a clan’s army.

Consider the Massed Bands performing “Scotland the Brave,” followed by “The Black Bear,” the traditional march when troops return to their barracks. It’s a thrilling, unique experience that will bring smiles and delight to all who gather.

The Oatlands Highland Gathering is the venue whether your interests are bagpipe-related, Scottish heritage-loving, or simply for a great cultural event. See you in Callington Park on 5th April 2025—slàinte mhath!

The Kings of Comedy’s Hobart Showcase: Laughter is the Best Medicine

When: April 18, 7:00 PM

Where: Polish Club Hobart

Need a belly laugh? The Kings of Comedy are coming to Hobart with a bill of Australia’s top funny bones. Cheeky Australian humour and clever banter and possibly a little light-hearted roast or two (we’re eyeing off the front-row volunteers here) are on the menu. At the historic Polish Club Hobart, the night of stand-up is the perfect cure for autumn blues.

Previous acts include  Bob Franklin, Denise Scott, Tony Martin, Nick Cody, Dave O’Neil, Dave Hughes. So order a pint and sit down and your giggles converted into full-blown snorts. Warning: Resist the urge to take a gulp of drink on punchlines—spit takes are inevitable.

Last Words: April in Tasmania is Where It’s At

From eating under fairy lights to laughing until your ribs hurt, the things to do in Tasmania in April are endless. Mix and match these activities with strolls along Hobart’s Battery Point, a drive to Cradle Mountain, or a sinful bakery tour for the world’s best scallop pie (bring it on, SA).

So, what’s holding you back? Gather your mates, your appetite for adventure, and submerge yourselves in autumn heaven in Tassie. To further enhance your travels, consider taking an Audio tour in Tasmania on our app.

Insider tip: Get in quick and book your accommodation—these festivals are hotter than a just-baked sourdough loaf in the Harvest Festival. See you in April, when the punchlines will be the only things crisper than the air.
